Planning Production

Front cover
For my magazine I have decided to use my friend for the main image. I am going to make sure that she represents the genre of the magazine by making her look like unique and attractive and wear something that will represent music. For the colour scheme I am going to use the following colours: hot pink, electric blue, purple and white. The models makeup is going to be very bright and unusual to catch the buyers eye and make it look different from any other magzine on the market.

Evaluation

My product uses conventions of a real magazine as it includes the following:
A title that is in italian so is very unique and different to other school magazines
A main image that you would find on a conventional magazine
Included a barcode on the magazine to show the customers that the magazine is available to buy
Also included the price so the buyers are informed how much the magazine will cost
Added the date so the readers are aware of the date it was published
Chose a suitable background that is relevant to a school magazine and chose colours from the background and used them throughout the front cover and contents page

When creating my front cover I used photoshop. Photoshop is very useful as it is a good programme for designing the front cover of a magazine. It had the right tools for making the front cover look professional and eye-catching. By doing the preliminary task it has recapped my memory of how to use photoshop and am now ready to use this programme on my main task. For my contents page I used a similar programme that i wasnt familiar with. This was called Quark Xpress. After using this I realised that this was a much better programme for making a contents page.

I think the strengths of my product is that i have used similar colours to the school colours and have used these colours throughout both the front cover and content. Also this colour goes well with the background i chose on the main image. By experimenting with the tools more on photoshop I think I could have made the front cover look more professional. Also i forgot to include an issue number, however I can learn from my mistakes and can make sure I include everything on my main task. I have now learnt how to use Quark Xpress and can use that programme in the future.

Codes and conventions of a music magazine

We also analysed the codes and conventions of the contents page of the music magazine;

- has a main image that is positioned in the centre of the magazine. This is the largest image included on the magazine.

- has a masthead. This is near the top, in bold to catch the audiences eye.

- includes buzzwords such as plus and exclusive.

- has a bar code on the front page as a way of scanning the product.

- issue number 1 as it's the first new issue.
